This is an important original (circa early 1900's) gilt bronze sculpture by Joseph D'Aste, titled "Idylle". It is a very detailed, heavy (over 37 pounds), solid bronze sculpture mounted on a beautiful heavy Green Marble base. It is signed on the lower right side "J. D'Aste". It measures overall 17-1/4" high x 15" wide at the widest point and is in EXCELLENT condition. This gilt bronze figure group is of a strolling young peasant couple that appears to have romantic feelings for one another. It was purchased in 1993 from a private collection in Williamsburg, Va. It has not been on the market for sale since that time.
Joseph D'Aste was born in Naples, Italy and later moved to Paris where he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1905 to 1934.
